2014 Chevy Volt

Chevy Volt Gets Top Safety Honors from IIHS

2014 Chevy VoltWhen it comes to safety, the results are in, and the 2014 Chevy Volt blows all competition out of the water. Chevrolet’s plug-in hybrid has earned the highest safety honor given out the by IIHS, the Top Safety Pick + award. Of the 12 cars in its class tested, the Volt was the only one to receive this award.  The is especially good news for those concerned about the safety of greener cars like the Nissan Leaf, which was given a “Poor” rating in the same tests. The Volt even earned the second-highest rating in the incredibly challenging small front-overlap crash test that the IIHS considers the most difficult crash test done anywhere.

This is a particularly big accomplishment because the 2014 Volt was designed before the small front-overlap test was even introduced, meaning it had taken into account this kind of safety without the added pressure of passing tests. Future Volt models designed specifically with the test in mind should fare even better in an area where most small cars have been struggling just to be rated “Acceptable”.

Aside from being the only small car to earn the Top Safety Pick + award, the 2014 Chevrolet Volt was the only vehicle that featured technology that sought to prevent the crashes from happening in the first place. The collision warning system alerts drivers when it detects an imminent frontal collision, while the automatic breaking engages without the driver needing to react when a crash is about to happen. Both of these features helped the Volt avoid the worst of the situations it was tested in and come out on top. As always, the best way to be safe is to stop the crash from happening in the first place, and the safety features on the Volt have clearly set the bar for preventative medicine.

If safety and efficiency are on your new-car checklist, the 2014 Chevy Volt is the ideal pick. With its myriad of safety and tech features and sleek, stylish design, it’s a hard car to beat by any metric. Pay a visit to our Lakewood, NJ Chevrolet dealership to test-drive this great car yourself!

2014 Chevy SS

2015 Chevrolet SS to Feature 6-Speed Manual Transmission, New Colors

The 2014 SS

The big news in Chevrolet today is huge: GM’s 2015 Order Guide has been updated, and the new features listed for the 2015 Chevrolet SS are exactly what Chevy enthusiasts have been asking for. The marquee upgrade is the option of a manual transmission (although it appears the automatic will be standard), but the car will also include Magnetic Selective Ride Control, OnStar 4G LTE, and twice as many color options as the previous model.

The Magnetic Selective Ride Control brings to the new Chevrolet SS one of GM’s most forward-thinking feature adaptations. This suspension system uses magnetic shock absorbers that adjust based on the driving surface to imbue the car with a  ride smoother than ever before, one without any small moving parts that can wear out or need to be replaced.

The exact specs of the 6-speed manual transmission aren’t yet known. It is reasonable, though, to assume it will mirror the same option in similar GM sports cars, particularly the Australian Holden Commodore, on which the SS is modeled.

Although details about exterior upgrades have not been released (pictures only display a redesigned front license plate bracket), we can be sure that the car will have twice as many paint options as before. The snazzily named new colors in the SS palette are Regal Peacock Green, Some Like It Hot Red, Jungle Green Metallic, Perfect Blue, and Alchemy Purple. These come in addition to the already-available colors Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic, Heron White, and Mystic Green.

As more information about the 2015 Chevrolet SS becomes available to the public, you can be sure we here at Pine Belt Chevrolet will keep you up-to-date on the newest developments. Head on down to your local New Jersey Chevrolet dealership for all of the info you need on new Chevy cars!

Todd Frazier

Watch Point Pleasant’s Todd Frazier in the MLB All-Star Game!

At Pine Belt Cars, we love giving back to our local communities. Whether we’re supporting local charities like March of Dimes, helping out local high schools or hosting events like our Memorial Day Event BBQ Bash, we want to fully immerse ourselves in the lives of our customers.

Our support extends to those who’ve grown up around our dealerships too. That’s why we’re so excited to watch Cincinnati Reds slugger Todd Frazier make his first All-Star appearance on June 15! A native of Point Pleasant, NJ, Frazier cut his teeth on the Toms River Little League team and led his squad to glory in the 1998 Little League World Series. He then stayed local for both high school and college, playing ball at Toms River South High School and then playing for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Frazier went on to become a first-round draft pick by the Reds in 2007 and made his MLB debut in 2011 after an exciting minor league career. This year, Frazier is hitting .290 with 19 home runs, 53 RBI and 14 steals while playing first base and third base for the Reds, making his first All-Star game appearance a well-deserved one! Today, Frazier still owns a home in Toms River and has a Little League field named after him, the Frazier Field House.

We did our best to get Frazier to the All-Star game by voting for him all throughout June, and we’re happy to see that current major leaguers think as highly of him as we do! Tune in to watch Todd take on the American League All-Stars tomorrow night at 8:00pm EST and root for a member of the Pine Belt community.
